New album: IDORA PARK

Named for the grand amusement park that once graced North Oakland, IDORA PARK is a 6-song collection (26 minutes). Recorded July - August 2012 in an apartment some 15 blocks south of where the park once sat, IDORA PARK is a reflection on the loss of a golden age, however one chooses to define that term.

An initial pressing of 35 copies has been made and will be distributed mostly to friends. However, mp3s are available below:

01. I Was Wrong
02. Idora Park
03. Boxes
04. Please Don't Let Me Go
05. Yellow House
06. A Vulnerable Man

  1. I have been listening to idora park quite a bit lately. It’s really beautiful. KM produces sound in a really wonderful way; great layering, a very consistent texture that brings the listener in. Lyrics are specific, honest, and metaphorical only when needed (contrast the Pollack-esque word-throwing of Stephen Malkmus, who often falls short).

‘idora park’ exists as a wonderful, cavernous, textured tune. It matches the shadows that it opens with. The drums on ‘Yellow House’ are perfect…it throws off the balance of the listener and brings them right into the song.

My hands-down favorite is ‘A vulnerable man’. Brutally honest and straight(queer)forward. I like the place-naming (have you acquired the new Sun Kil Moon? Incredible geographic placing). Barriers and what to do with them are universal, powerful, and well-delivered in the EP's last tune. The closing song also exhibits the rare ability of a melody to meaningfully utilize a human utterance (e.g., ‘yeah’, ‘oh’, & ‘woah’). Congrats, you nailed it!

I—literally—was playing and talking with a friend yesterday night on the porch, and she described the madness of a new love in a way that referenced both the terms ‘barriers’ and ‘vulnerable’. (I didn’t mention the closing song on 'idora park' to her, probably should have!) ‘What do I do?’; YES, what do we all do!?

Wonderful and carefully delivered DIY ep.

“Our souls escape fires, they rise higher, …on this gentle moon…”
